Mommy Page Our Kids Mom, An Interview with Heather S. :

Heather has her hands full with four children, ranging in age from 3 to 20! She talks about the great giveaways she hosts on her site, Our Kids Mom, ways her family tries to save money, and her biggest challenge as a mother in our interview.

Tell us more about yourself, your family, and your website.

I started OurKidsMom about two years ago. In the beginning my blog was a way to keep long distance family members updated with new photos and cute stuff my children were doing. One day on Facebook I saw a post from a blogger I followed asking for more blogs to join a baby giveaway hop. I answered her post and after a little encouragement I was in the game full swing. I?ve been doing reviews and giveaways for about 1 ? years now and loving it.

Looks like there is a big difference in age between your oldest child and youngest; what is it like to have kids with that age difference??

Some times I feel like I have two different families. There are rare moments that all of us are together at the same time as the older children have ?their own lives?. The ?babies? are home with me all day while the other two are in school or working. When the younger two head off to bed the older two come out of hiding to have quality time with us. It cuts down on the ?hecticness? that a group of six brings, but I would enjoy a little more family bonding time as a whole.

There are tons of great giveaways happening on your site right now. What are some of the current giveaways you have going on? Which ones are the most popular? If you could win any of your own giveaways, which would you hope you win?

I think the biggest (and coolest if I might add) giveaway is for the Spring Free Trampoline (RV $1899). This would be THE ONE giveaway I would LOVE to win! I wasn?t given an opportunity to review one of these and I know my entire family would enjoy it. The Home Security System and the Mohawk Area rug are also pretty popular right now, too.

Having four kids must cost lots of money?what are some ways in which your family tries to save money?

We try to create our own fun at home. We invest in items to try to make our living area at home? comfortable and fun. It can cost a bit initially, but in the end we save a lot of money by having fun at home.

We?ve made our larger living room more comfortable and inviting. Between the movies my husband checks out from the library, the free streaming shows through PlayOn (and Hulu) and the streaming through Amazon Prime we have enough to choose from. We also enjoy a good board or card game occasionally. Between the indoor fun and our large backyard we can usually find something entertaining to do.

What is your biggest challenge being a mom?

My biggest challenge with being a mom to four is taking the time to focus on myself from time to time. I tend to be a giver and have a hard time saying no to people. I have been a mom for over 20 years now. It?s only been recently that I?ve taken the time to find things that I enjoy to do. I?ve learned that I need to love and take care of myself to effectively do so for others.
